Girl Emo
Hair: Looking After your Emo Locks
The emo culture, started
by the gutter punks of the early nineteen eighties, has brought about
the rise of a popular genre whose definition has remained a mystery and
has evolved in various ways through the years. The emo look has made a
mark in the world of fashion, from clothes, accessories, makeup and up
to the most important part, the hair. The typical emo hairstyle is
described as layered, asymmetrical and poker straight, sometimes
sporting edgy spikes and often, side swept bangs. Although meant to be
radical and completely off-the-wall, the emo hairstyle is not spared
from the obvious and unflattering effects of a bad hair day.

Girls who plan to maintain
an emo hairstyle are subject to a great deal of styling, cutting and
accessorizing. Various methods of styling, especially if done on a
frequent basis, render the hair prone to serious damages such as
dryness, hair fall and breakage. Majority of the emo hairstyles are
suitable for girls with naturally straight hair. Because of this, emo
chicks with curly hair often make use of straighteners. The effect of
this is dryness, which can be prevented by thorough conditioning
several, days, weeks or month before a permanent straightening process,
depending on the condition of the hair. This can be done through daily
use of shampoos and conditioners with deep moisturizing properties. For
emo chicks that make use of temporary methods of straightening such as
the flat iron, it is advisable to apply an adequate amount of protectant
to the hair. This can shield the hair from the damages brought about by
extreme and direct heat. Emo girls with extra dry hair can make use of
conditioning serums and creams to ensure the luster and texture of their
hair.
Emo hair, due to frequent
styling and designing are prone to split ends. This problem can be
prevented by careful combing and sometimes, hand combing. The use of a
wide toothed comb is advisable and girls must learn not to struggle
against stubborn hair tangles. It is also important for the girls to
have their hair trimmed on a regular basis to remove unsightly split
ends.

Emo hair is made edgier
with the use of hair colors. However, frequent hair coloring can ruin
ones hair, stripping it of its natural coating. It is therefore
important to avoid changing hair colors on short intervals. If they are
bent on having a fresh new look from time to time, emo girls can make
use of a spray-on, washable hair coloring agent that can be brought in a
great number of stores. Frequent use of hair dryer can also cause
damage. Hence, one must consider natural air-drying if possible. |
