First off, one must have the right haircut. One must let their hair grow long, at least past the ears and have it chopped off into a blended crop. The fringe must be of the proper length, which is longer than the rest of the haircut, going past the nose, but refrains from touching the bottom of the face.

The next step would be to create interesting layers on the hair. To ensure even layers, one must utilize a razor comb or a straight razor. One can straighten the hair or hold the design with an extra-hold hair gel. Girls with naturally curly hair may want to consider having their hair straightened in order to fit most of the basic emo hairstyles. To add some spunk to the haircut, some color can be added. Experimenting with various emo hair colors can be quite fun as there are no set standards to be followed, ones imagination therefore is their limit. Random streaks of different rainbow colors or a solid shade that is different from ones original hair color can be used.
